2014 Dam Block
2014 DAM BLOCK
VINEYARD AND WINEMAKING NOTES
The 2014 vintage started with a warm frost free spring. A very warm summer followed, which meant high heat accumulation. This led to one of the warmest vintages ever recorded in Hawke’s Bay ensuring ripe, flavoursome fruit in excellent condition.
Low cropping and early fruit thinning ensured optimum potential. The Dam Block is named after the Dam at the base of our north face sloping vineyards. The fruit from this terraced vineyard was hand harvested two weeks later than usual, this ensured full ripeness. Warm fermentation (26 ͦC – 28 ͦC) with selected yeast strains. Post ferment with 28 days extra maceration, the wine was then pressed and put to barrique for malo-lactic fermentation. The wine was matured in French oak for 10 months, barrel selected to create our flagship Bordeaux varietal blend.
